Mary E. Pearson completes her best selling trilogy, The Remnant Chronicles, with a national tour.
The Hicklebee's TAB introduced Mary E. Pearson and Veronica Rossi with a speed reading of their books, which always makes for a fun intro to not only the authors but their books!
From there, Veronica Rossi opened up the discussion with Mary by asking the question on everyone's mind: How does it feel to finally complete the trilogy? Sharing that she felt she might not finish after being stuck many times through the story, Mary opened up that the story went how she planned it all along. Veronica shared that she misses her characters and has been pondering writing a book about Roar. The audience emphatically agreed.

One of the most fascinating parts of the Remnant Chronicles is the world the books are set in. Mary often builds her worlds while out on walks and heeds closely to one piece of advice she was given. "You have to give your characters air to breathe and a floor to walk on." Veronica agreed, walking the audience through how world building creates tone and atmosphere for the story. Both agreed that using the five senses helps the reader see the world through a character's eyes.
Mary and Veronica have slightly different writing styles, with Mary being a panster and Veronica being a planner. Mary knows the general direction of her story while Veronica feels writing with a plan is important. Oh, and for all of you out there, Mary doesn't see the story in A Kiss of Deception as a twist!
On character development and voice, Veronica shared that characters in her books are not based on people she knows in real life because she couldn't be impartial. Mary asks herself what the character wants and needs - what's their motivation - as she develops the characters. This is especially helpful with the villains in a story as it helps the writer to better understand them.

Both Mary and Veronica spoke about being artists before they were writers. "I quit my job to be a writer," Mary shared, while also talking about the fear of failure that comes with being a writer. Both have "drawer books" that helped shape their future releases. For Mary, a few rejection letters quickly helped her realize that while her character developed was fantastic, she needed support in developing a plot.
